Sweet Chocolate Baby, Please

My mind is going about 18 miles a minute and I can't type that fast so bare with me as I try to explain what has happened.  When deciding on a lawyer to work with and speaking with paralegals, one paralegal said to us

"We never suggest that you put all of your eggs in one basket"

This got Matthew and I thinkin' and prayin'.  We prayed that God would show us if we should put ourselves out there a bit more and see what other services, facilitators & agencies could offer us.  I looked and researched and God just kept closing doors and a lot of the time we felt uneasy in our hearts going to other places.  We knew that was the Holy Spirit giving us discernment.  So, I returned back to an adoption network that we called months ago when we first started looking into adoption.  When I first called them I had no idea what to ask or say and absolutely no idea what we wanted out of an adoption.  I think the phone called probably went like this "Hii..um, we want a baby."  Ha!  So, when we called them this time around & spoke with the same consultant, we knew all we needed to.  We knew our budget, our desires to work with certain types of agencies, our openesss and our readiness.

The cool part & the part that made us KNOW that God was all over this was when the conversation went like this:

Consultant: Are you open to any gender?

Us: Yes!

Constultant: Are you open to any race or ethnicity?

Us: Of course!

Constultant: Really!?  You two just made my day!  Let me tell you about a program we have to offer for you...

She went on to tell us that the families who work with them are predominately caucasian and want to adopt healthy newborns that look like them...so they have a lot of birthmothers who never recieve a match because they are looking for a family to adopt their full African American baby.  Friends, we don't care if the baby were purple with streaks of yellow (Well, we might care...cuz' that's just crazy!)  But you get the point, right?  A sweet chocolate baby is a perfect fit for our family.  This baby that doesn't find a home will find a home in us and we decided to work with this network and go through their program.

What does this mean?  It means that we will more than likely have a match in weeks!  As soon as we send them our initial deposit, literally, we are looking at weeks.  It means that the liklihood of us having a baby by Christmas is 100%.  This is happening.  We were so excited because as happy as we were to be adopting with the House of Ruth and how beautiful a ministry it is we knew that if we weren't picked there were hundreds of other couples in line behind us who would be willing to adopt that baby.  But the baby we will bring home?  Well, it's sad & true, but we may be the only ones in line.  This is the orphan that our God has called us to care for.  But, the silly thing is, the baby might need us but we NEED this baby.

So, what's next?  We need money!  We knew with the ministry we were originally going with we didn't need as much money since the payments due were to be so spread out and we could offset the cost with the small loan we have been given and out-of-pocket.  But, since this is likely to happen so fast we are going to need most of the money, like...well now.  How much will we need?  About $10,000-$17,000 more!!!  We know God will provide for this.  We are SURE.  We know we will meet our goal of adopting without debt because this baby needs a home and our home needs a baby.  I am so excited to work towards adopting our precious little miracle and so is Matt.  I see it in his eyes when we talk about the baby.  I can feel his excitement and his love growing so deep for this child we haven't met yet.

Anyway, we need $15,000 and I am excited to share with you how this all unfolds!!!

Oh Ashley!!! I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOU!
Are you going to start doing fundraising to reach your goal? I'm not sure how that works. :)

Thanks so much for sharing in the excitment! We have done some fundraising in the past, we had two raffles (one included a flat screen TV) that helped us raise money for the adoption but right now I'm not sure how we would do another since we don't have anything to raffle off or a huge blog following! haha. But, please, keep praying, because somehow this will all work out!!!

Hi Abby! I do in fact, just love Carina! There is nothing that I love to bond over more than adoption and coffee! Thank you so much for your prayers, they mean SO much to me and my husband! Hopefully we'll be showing off pictures of our precious miracle someday soon! =)

Ashley, I'm just now reading your blog for the first time, and I can relate to this post tremendously. My husband and I adopted our first daughter, Nola, this year. We also had NO preferences as to what kind of baby would start our family, and it amazed us how many options there were that most people might not be open to. Our open hearts helped us match to a birthmama within weeks of finishing our home study! Check out our blog, we kept track of our timeline, we hope it helps you remain hopeful. :) It can happen so quickly sometimes.

We discovered helpusadopt.org a bit too late for our situation, because our adoption was already finalized, but you should look into applying for a grant with them! We will keep you and your husband and that baby (wherever he/she may be!) in our prayers!

We are in the same boat with a similar adoption agency & also don't have a preference on race of gender. Check into helpusadopt.org & showhope.org for grants!
